Trivandrum:

Russian citizens residing in Kerala cast their votes for the Russian presidential election at a specially set up voting booth at the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation “Russia House” in Thiruvananthapuram.

Rattiesh Nair, honorary consul of Russia and president of the Russian House of Representatives in Thiruvananthapuram, said this is the third time they have arranged voting for the Russian presidential election. He expressed his gratitude to the Russian citizens of Kerala for their cooperation during the polling process.

Speaking to ANI, Rathish Nair said: “This is the third time that the Russian Federation Consulate is hosting polling stations for the Russian presidential elections. This is really for the Russian nationalists who stay here, but also for the tourists. We are very Delighted with the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation. I am very grateful to the Russian citizens of Kerala for their cooperation and enthusiastic voting in the process of electing a new president.”

Senior Consul General in Chennai Sergey Azurov said: “We are organizing preliminary voting within the framework of the presidential elections. We are here to provide opportunities to citizens of the Russian Federation living in India.”

Urya, a Russian citizen, said fellow citizens of Kerala are grateful to the Russian House of Representatives and the Consulate General in India for providing them the opportunity to vote in the presidential election.

Speaking to ANI, Uriya said: “Everyone who came here today is a Russian citizen, either permanently living in India or a tourist here. Everyone is grateful and happy to be here to participate in the elections, which is a blessing for everyone. It is very important for every citizen. These are our elections.” Therefore, we are grateful to Russia House and the Consulate General of India in Chennai for this opportunity. “

Russia will hold presidential elections from March 15 to 17. Russian citizens will vote from Friday to Sunday in the country’s 11 time zones. Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has approved just three candidates to oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin, CNN reports.

The three candidates running against Putin are Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party, Vladislav Davankov of the New People’s Party and Nikolai Kharitonov of the Communist Party. All three are thought to be satisfactorily supportive of the Kremlin and none oppose Russia’s military action in Ukraine.

With most opposition candidates either dead, imprisoned, exiled, barred from running, or merely in token numbers, Putin’s victory is all but certain, according to CNN .

Putin’s re-election would extend his rule until at least 2030. After amending the constitution in 2020, he will be able to run again and potentially stay in power until 2036.
