Russian President Putin announced a 72 -hour ceasefire to mark the anniversary of WW2

Russian President Vladimir Putin unilaterally announced a three-day ceasefire for the 80th anniversary of victory in the great patriotic war on 8–11 May in the ongoing war with Ukraine and called Kiev to do so, Kremlin said on Monday.

Kremlin said that the decision was based on “human ideas” and will be held at midnight at midnight at midnight on 10–11 May at midnight.

The Russian side reiterated his desire to enter peace talks unconscious, with an approach to eliminating the root causes behind Ukraine’s crisis and establishing creative interaction with international partners.

Moscow had earlier rejected an American-block proposal for a 30-day ceasefire which was agreed by Ukraine.

The Russia will mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War, its term for the war with Germany in 1942–1945, known as Strays after World War II on 9 May.

In a statement, Kremlin said, “Russia believes the Ukrainian side should follow the example. In the event of any violation of the ceasefire by the Ukrainian side, the armed forces of the Russian Federation will give a proportional and efficient response.”

Earlier on 27 April, Russia launched drones and air strikes in Ukraine, killing at least four people, officials told Al Jazeera that US President Donald Trump, a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s desire to end the war.

Trump said on Saturday that he suspects that Putin wants to end the war in Ukraine over three years, expressing doubts that a peace deal could be reached soon. Only one day earlier, Trump said that according to Ukraine and Russia Al Jazeera, “were very close to a deal”.

During the President’s campaign, Trump often claimed that he could end the war in 24 hours, but the reality was different.

“In the last few days, Putin had no reason to shoot missiles in civilian areas, cities and towns”, Trump wrote in a social media post as he went back to the US after attending Pope Francis’ funeral in Vatican, where he met Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelansky on Saturday. Trump also indicated further sanctions against Russia, according to Al Jazeera. (AI)
