Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has arrived in China for a two-day visit that includes meetings with President Xi Jinping and chief Li Qiang.

The tour is seen by moscow as “very important”, focusing on economic, industrial and technological cooperation at a time when both countries are facing increasing Western pressure and sanctions.

“We hope that the Chinese President will welcome Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin Xi JinpingIt is also a mutual tradition in bilateral relations. kremlin the spokesman said, according to Russian news agency TASS.

“So, we are certainly looking forward to this visit and attach great importance to it.”

Mr Mishustin’s meetings will cover trade, energy, transportation, agriculture and advanced technology.

China Russia has emerged as Russia’s closest ally and a vital lifeline after the West imposed sanctions on Moscow over the war in Ukraine.

According to Russian Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov, the two sides have strengthened ties since signing a “no borders” partnership in 2022, although bilateral trade has declined recently due to “external pressure” and “market saturation” of Chinese goods.

A statement issued after Russian leader Vladimir Putin met Mr Xi said Beijing In 2022, both countries said that their friendship has no limits and “there are no prohibited areas of cooperation”.

He stressed that “the purpose of strengthening bilateral strategic cooperation is neither directed against third countries nor influenced by the changing international environment and circumstantial changes in third countries”.

Mishustin is visiting China For the 30th meeting of the Russian and Chinese Heads of Government from 3 to 4 November.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said the meeting would “further enhance mutual trust, build broad consensus, deepen cooperation and bring new momentum to development.” China-Russia-Coordinating Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the New Era”.

The Kremlin said that ahead of the prime minister’s visit, Russian and Chinese officials met in Ningbo to discuss increasing copper, nickel and agricultural exports.

kremlin Considers deeper industrial and technological cooperation with Beijing According to Reuters, as a more sustainable form of long-term partnership.

Ukraine, along with Russia, is heavily dependent on Chinese equipment – drones, chips, jamming systems and fiber optics – to keep their armies operational.

Ukrainian experts say that if Beijing Banning such exports would stop the war “very rapidly”.

Volodymyr Fesenko, head of the Penta think tank in Kyiv, told Al Jazeera Mr Xi’s role in ending the war is important. “Without financial support, without economic cooperation with China, Russia cannot continue the war,” he said. “China is Russia’s main economic resource. If it wanted to end this war, it would have achieved it very quickly.”

Recently, US President Donald Trump said he hoped to seek China’s help to end the war in Ukraine.

“I want China to help us with Russia,” he said on Air Force One as he headed to Asia for a whirlwind tour that included a meeting with Mr. Xi In South Korea.

Mr Trump has previously said the Chinese leader could have “a big influence on Putin”.
