The Antonov AN -24 aircraft, which went missing during a domestic flight from BlagogensChenc from Tinda, was located about 15 kilometers from its destination by a rescue helicopter, Russia reported today.
According to a source quoted by RT, the Tind Turboprop aircraft lost communication shortly before reaching Tinda Airport, in which no crisis was sent signal. The flight was operated on a 570 km route in the remote Eastern Amur region of Russia.
The governor of the region, Vasili Orlov, confirmed that 43 passengers were on the board, including four crew members. He said that five children were among the passengers.
Video footage released by emergency services features a Mi-8 helicopter that fly on a heavy forest area as part of the search operation. The debris was found burning in a dense and hill borial forest, Taiga, which has made rescue efforts difficult today according to Russia.
The AN-24 aircraft developed in the 1950s are widely used in Russia for regional transport. More than 1,000 aircraft were produced in several decades.
