Russia says it destroyed 47 Ukrainian drones in southern region overnight

Kiev regularly fires drones at Russia during Moscow’s military offensive in Ukraine

Rostov, Ukraine:

Russia said on Saturday it destroyed 47 Ukrainian drones over its southern regions overnight, most of them in the Rostov region on the border with Ukraine.

This is the third year that Kiev has regularly launched drones into Russia during Moscow’s military offensive in Ukraine.

The Russian army stated on social media: “The air defense systems on duty are in Belgorod Oblast (one drone), Kursk Oblast (two drones), Volgograd Oblast (three drones) and Rostov Oblast (41 drones) were intercepted and destroyed.”

The southern Rostov region is the hub of Russian military planning for military operations in Ukraine.

Rostov Governor Vasily Golubev said on social media that the drone struck the city of Taganrog on the Sea of Azov near the Russian-occupied region of Ukraine.

One rescue worker was injured but “no fatalities”, he said.

Social media channels close to the Russian military said Ukraine had attacked an aviation factory in Taganrog.

“In Taganrog, the target of the attack is most likely the Beriev aviation plant,” said Ribal, a Telegram channel with close ties to the army.

The channel also claimed that another target was a military air base in the town of Morozovsk in Russia.

Authorities in the Kursk region, further north and on the border with Ukraine, said a clinic in the main city of Kursk had been damaged.

Regional Governor Roman Starovoyt posted a video of himself outside the “Kursk Polyclinic No. 6”. There was visible damage to the top of the green building.

“Fortunately, everyone is still alive,” Starovot said, adding that medical staff had evacuated patients from a nearby hospital.

Kursk is a city of about 440,000 people about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
