Russell Brand says he’s ‘leaving sins behind’ by getting baptized

Russell Brand is ready for a rebirth months after sexual harassment allegations surfaced against him.

The 48-year-old comedian and actor announced on Instagram last week that he is “moving on” and “getting baptized.”

“What has been explained to me is that it is an opportunity to die and be reborn. An opportunity to leave the past behind and be reborn in the name of Jesus Christ,” he said.

“As it is said in Galatians: That you may live as an enlightened and awakened person,” he referenced a verse of scripture, adding that the idea of ​​being baptized was “very attractive and beautiful.”

Explaining his decision, he said, “People are very cynical about the growing interest in Christianity and the return to God, but to me it is clear.”

He continued, “As meaning deteriorates in the modern world, as our value systems and institutions collapse, we are all becoming aware that this calls for an all-too-familiar awakening and It’s an image that we all know within ourselves and around us in our lives. And that’s very exciting to me.”

Brand concluded, “I may leave sins behind, but I may also pick up some serious viruses.”
