Rurally killed by Maoists in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh at alleged police link

Raipur, October 2 (IANS) In a cruel work of violence, which has sent shockwaves through the rebel-Hit Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, the Maoists killed a villager after accusing him of being a police informer.

The victim, known as Madam Bhima, was a resident of Pujarikankar village under the jurisdiction of Usur police station in Bijapur district.

According to police officials, the incident occurred around 9.00 pm on 1 October, when a group of armed Maoists reached Bhima’s residence.

Eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers forcibly entered their house, accused the security forces of passing information, and pulled it out. There, in a full scene of nervous villagers, he attacked him with a sharp -edged weapon, causing fatal injuries.

The Usur police station came to know about the murder soon after the incident. A team was sent to verify the report, and on confirmation, a case was registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Justice (BNS) and the illegal activities (prevention) Act.

Police officials have started an investigation and assured that all necessary legal action is being taken.

A senior police officer from Bijapur said, “It was a coward and inhuman work.” “Targeting innocent villagers on the pretext of doubt is a strategy, which has been used to provoke longer fear and suppress dissatisfaction. We are committed to ensure justice for the victim and his family.”

The murder has once again highlighted the consistent threat created by the Maoist rebels in the region, where citizens are often caught among the crossfire of extremist violence and counter-ethnicity operations. Despite the lack of evidence in many cases, the allegation of police informer has become a common justification for such targeted murders.

Local residents expressed grief and resentment over Bhima’s death, described him as a calm and hardworking person, with no known political affiliation.

Security forces have intensified patrolling in the area, and efforts are underway to identify criminals.

The incident adds to the increasing list of civilian casualties in the Maoist affected districts of Chhattisgarh, which outlines the extreme protective measures and immediate needs of community engagement for extremist impact and innocent life safety.
