A biryani feast organized by AIMIM leader and candidate Tausif Alam in Bihar’s Kishanganj turned chaotic on Thursday, October 16, with a video showing the crowd jostling for food going viral on social media. Alam, representing Asaduddin Owaisi’s party, hosted an event at his residence before filing nomination papers for the fifth term.
The feast, held as part of a prayer ceremony ahead of his nomination, was attended by many more people than expected. Videos circulating online showed people jostling at the food counter, in what users have dubbed the “biryani mob”.
A view of the nomination of AIMIM candidate Tausif Alam in Bahadurganj. AIMIM supporters fought among themselves for free biryani. A telling snapshot. The rules and politics of poverty still promote it!

Reactions on social media were divided. One
Alam dismissed the controversy, saying, “It was a Fatiha Khawani ceremony where biryani was distributed like prasad after religious prayers. The permission was for 2,000 people, but the love from the public was overwhelming.”
The NDA suffered its only defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Kishanganj, which has a Muslim population of over 68%. Assembly elections will be held in two phases in Bihar on November 6 and 11 and counting of votes will take place on November 8.
