Chennai, Nov 1 (IANS) The BJP has hit back at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his recent remarks demanding a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), saying the Sangh is not a problem but the solution to many issues plaguing the society.
Terming the statement a “reckless political outrage”, Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad said Kharge should tender an “unconditional apology” to the lakhs of volunteers who have “dedicated” their lives to national service.
The party leader accused the Congress of “rewriting history and betraying BR Ambedkar’s Constitution”, while describing the RSS as “the moral backbone of India”.
“If anyone has undermined democracy and constitutional values, it is the Congress – from Indira Gandhi’s Emergency to today’s dynasty-driven politics,” the statement said.
Citing historical events, the BJP spokesperson recalled the 1975-77 Emergency, the 39th and 42nd constitutional amendments, the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and major corruption scandals under the UPA as evidence of Congress’s “habitual abuse of power”.
He also blamed the “failed forward policy” of the Nehru government for India’s defeat by China in 1962 and alleged that the Congress had “promoted separatism in Kashmir” through Article 370.
Referring to Kharge’s criticism linking the RSS to law and order issues, Prasad said the official NCRB data shows a 4.5 per cent decline in overall IPC crimes in 2023.
He said, “RSS is not the problem; it is the solution โ a disciplined, service-oriented force that stands with citizens in every disaster, from Partition to Covid-19.”
The statement cited the RSS’s relief work during Partition, natural disasters and pandemics, calling it “the world’s largest volunteer movement” with over five million members and thousands of social projects.
BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad also cited Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 1948 letter acknowledging the RSS’s service to Hindu society after Partition and asserted that Kharge had “distorted history to defame the patriotic organisation.”
Ending the rebuttal, ANS Prasad declared that Kharge and Rahul Gandhi should introspect instead of insulting patriots.
He claimed, “Congress has lost its moral conscience. India is moving forward under Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed India, guided by the values โโof Patel and Ambedkar.”
