Guwahati, Nov 17 (IANS) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat arrived in Assam on Monday for a two-day visit, an important leg of the nationwide programs to commemorate the 100th year of the organisation.
Bhagwat today landed at Guwahati’s famous Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, where he was welcomed by senior RSS functionaries and state level coordinators.
From the airport, he went straight to Sudarshanalaya in Barbari, the organisation’s head office in the city, where closed-door talks and internal meetings have been scheduled.
The yatra is part of the RSS’s broader centenary calendar, which has drawn up a series of outreach, organizational and intellectual programs across the country.
Given the rapidly growing network in the Northeast and the organization’s focus on cultural integration, community engagement and cadre training in the region, Assam holds special significance for the association.
This is Bhagwat’s second visit to Assam in the same year. In February, he spent five days in Guwahati, during which he met workers from different districts of the state. That visit included an in-depth organizational review, discussions with senior campaigners on ongoing initiatives and an address at the Rashtra Sevika Samiti event held at IIT Guwahati.
He also gave an intellectual (intellectual) speech at South Point High School in the city’s Saukuchi area, where thousands of workers gathered to hear him on national issues, social solidarity and the role of the RSS in contemporary India.
During the current visit, Bhagwat is expected to review the progress of various activities related to the centenary in Assam and interact with the state-level union leadership on future strategies.
Although details of his itinerary have been largely kept confidential, sources indicated that he will hold brainstorming sessions on organizational expansion, youth outreach and cultural initiatives in the Northeast.
The visit comes at a time when the RSS is increasing its activism in the region, where it has significantly expanded its presence in the last decade.
The centenary celebrations of the Sangh have been projected as an opportunity to strengthen its ideological footprint and connect with a wider section of the society. Bhagwat will visit Manipur on 20 November.
