Bengaluru, Oct 16 (IANS) Karnataka Police has arrested a man who threatened RDPR, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge over his proposal to ban Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activities in public places.
The accused was arrested in Latur, Maharashtra on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Danappa Naroni, also known as Danesh, a resident of Solapur district of Maharashtra. The arrest was made in a joint operation between Kalaburagi District Police and Bengaluru Police. According to officials, after making a threatening and abusive phone call to Minister Kharge, the accused left his native place and was living in Latur.
Police are bringing him to Bengaluru for further investigation and he is likely to reach the state capital by tonight.
An FIR was lodged at Sadashivnagar police station in Bengaluru following the threatening call. Claiming to be associated with RSS, the accused asked Minister Kharge whether he had the right to speak about the organization. He also claimed that he has 30 to 40 years of experience, but the RSS has been in existence for hundreds of years. Additionally, he mocked Kharge’s father, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, saying that he would one day address Rahul Gandhi as Priyanka Gandhi.
Minister Kharge had released a 2.12 minute clip in this regard. Kharge was heard asking him whether he had received training on using abusive language in RSS meetings.
“If they think that threats and abuses will upset me, it is only their delusion,” the minister said.
Responding to RDPR, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge’s claim of receiving threat calls over his proposal to ban RSS activities in public places, BJP state president and MLA BY Vijayendra said Kharge was only trying to gain publicity.
Speaking to reporters in Chitradurga, when Vijayendra was asked about the threatening call to Priyank Kharge, he had said that such statements are being made only to attract attention.
“It is foolish to claim that RSS can be banned today. I would like to respectfully ask Minister Priyank Kharge – what are your achievements in the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) portfolio that you hold? What reforms have you introduced that you can present to the people?” Vijayendra asked a question.
