Ronnie O’sullivan Xi’an are out of the Grand Prix after a 5-2 quarter-final defeat to Gary Wilson.
O’Sullivan had dropped just three frames in a fierce charge in the last eight but was no match for the inspired Wilson at the Qijiang Sports Complex.
Wilson led 3–0 after breaks of 74, 101 and 79, before O’Sullivan brought the contest back into the contest with breaks of 65 and then 84 after the mid-session break.
Wilson regained control of the match with a break of 120, taking him to within one frame of the semi-finals and forcing his seven-time world champion opponent to give it all up.
O’Sullivan went 46 points ahead in the seventh frame, but then missed a red to give Wilson the chance to clear, and he missed the chance to book his place in the last four.
