Former England captain Michael Vaughan has backed Virat Kohli to become the run-scorer in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which starts on March 22. IPL 2024 marks the return of Virat Kohli on the cricket field, with the star batsman deciding to skip the England Test series citing personal issues. Kohli’s wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, gave birth to their second child in London last month and the former India captain decided to stay with his wife in the meantime.

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Warne said that while Rohit Sharma, who will captain Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024, will have the highest scoring rate of the season, he advised Ko Kohli was awarded the ‘Orange Cap’, which is awarded to the IPL’s leading run-scorer.

“Rohit Sharma will have the best strike rate in IPL 2024, but Virat Kohli will be the leading run-scorer,” Warne said.

However, former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist disagreed with Warne’s sentiments and backed Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal to take the top honors among batsmen.

Virat has not played any cricket since the two T20Is of the three-match series against Afghanistan in January. With just a few days left for the IPL, fans will no doubt be excited to see Virat back on the cricket field wearing the red and gold of the team.
