Team India captain Rohit Sharma has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, which ends a famous chapter in his international career. The 38 -year -old batsman on Wednesday for sharing the news on Instagram, thanked the fans and reflected his longest visit to the game.
Rohit wrote on his Instagram story, “Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It is a complete respect for the Gings to represent his country. Thanks to all love and support for years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format.”
Rohit made his Test debut in 2013 and scored 4,301 runs representing India in 67 matches. His red-ball career includes 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries with the best score of 212 career against South Africa in 2019.
As a leader in the longest format, Rohit captained India in 24 Tests, won 12 and lost 9. However, he faced criticism for India’s performance during Australia’s recent visit, where India failed to qualify for the World Test Championship Final, he guided the team in the final at the Oval of 2023.
While staying away from the oldest format, Rohit confirmed that he would be available for selection in a day international, where he remains an important part of India’s setup.
