Indian tennis superstar Rohan Bopanna made history as he and partner Matthew Ebden beat Croatian Ivan Dodic and American Austin Krajese 6-7, 6-3, 10-16 gram, won the Miami Open championship. In the process, the 44-year-old Bopanna became the oldest man to win the Masters 1000 title on the ATP Tour. The tennis star broke the record he set when he won last year in Indian Wells. The Miami Open victory also made Bopanna the second Indian after Leander Paes to reach the finals of all nine ATP Masters 1000 events.

Bopanna/Ebden had a bad start and lost the first set 6-7. However, the India-Australia pair kept their cool and made a strong comeback in the match. In the second set, Bopanna-Ebden sealed the victory 6-3. At the same time, in the third set, which was the deciding set, they defeated their opponents with a score of 10-6 and ended the game with their own advantage.

Previously, in the semi-finals, Bopana Edburn defeated Spanish player Marcel Granollers and Argentinian partner Horacio Zeballos 6-1, 6-4 to enter the final.

In the semifinals of the Miami Open, they dominated from the start. In the first set, the Indian-Australian combination won 6-1. In the second set, the opponent tried to comeback, but Bopanna and his teammates remained calm and secured the victory 6-4.

At this year’s Australian Open, the two defeated Italian players Simone Borelli and Andrea Vavassori in straight sets 7-6, 7-5 to enter the thrilling final. This is Bopanna’s second career Grand Slam title and his first in men’s doubles. His previous Grand Slam victory came in a mixed doubles match against Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski at the 2017 French Open.

Bopanna, making his 17th appearance at this Australian Open, easily won his first Grand Slam men’s doubles title. At 43 years and 329 days old, he also became the oldest Grand Slam champion.

The Indian tennis player is also the third Indian player in the Open era to win a Grand Slam men’s doubles title after Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi. After winning the championship, he also became the number one player in the world.
