Rogers deal with BCE to become a majority owner of MLSE

Toronto – Rogers Communications Inc. The 37.5 percent stake has been closed to buy its deal to become the company’s majority owner.

Rogers now holds a 75 percent stake in the owners of Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Reppers, Toronto Argonats and Toronto FC.

The $ 4.7 billion deal was effective on Tuesday after receiving the required regulator and league approval.

Rogers’s CEO Tony Staffieri called MLSE one of the most prestigious sports and entertainment organizations in the world.

The acquisition increases the company’s sports portfolio which already included Toronto Blue Jais, Rogers Center and Sportsnet.

Earlier this year, Rogers signed a new 12-year-old, $ 11 billion agreement with the National Hockey League for National Media Rights for NHL Games through 2037–2038. The deal kicks after the end of its current 12-year-old deal.

Rogers is a native company of Citizen and its colleagues.
