Shubman Gill completed his seventh Test half-century off the first ball of the 30th over. Gill hit 50 off 66 balls. After that, Pant also scored a half-century on the third ball of the match. Pant completed his fifty off just 36 balls to become the first Indian batsman to score the fastest half-century in a Test against New Zealand. Pant broke Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record. Jaiswal achieved this monumental achievement in the second Test of the series. In the second Test match at Pune, Jaiswal scored his half-century off just 41 balls.
During this half-century, Pant surpassed Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s great record. Pant overtook Dhoni and became the second wicketkeeper to score more than 50 and strike a strike rate of more than 100 in Test matches. Pant currently has 5 fifty+ scores in Test cricket with a strike rate of 100+. He is the third Indian batsman to make the biggest contribution for India.
