‘Rinku Singh should have been selected’: Former Pakistani star criticizes Indian selectors cricket news

By | Published | No Comments

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif believes that India should have picked three spinners instead of four and should have included Rinku Singh in the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup starting next month. There is a lot of discussion on BCCI’s decision of not including Rinku Singh in the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar even clarified that it was not Rinku Singh’s fault as he did nothing wrong. The explosive batsman performed brilliantly in IPL 2023 and followed it up with impressive performances for the Indian cricket team in T20Is.

However, he was included in the reserves and Shivam Dubey was rewarded for his form in the ongoing IPL 2024.

India have selected four spinners – Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal – for the mega game to be played in the United States and the Caribbean from June 1. The pitches there are likely to be more suited to fast bowling and that is why many experts believe that four spinners is too many.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Latif, while talking to IANS, said that Rinku has the experience of finishing matches and can help India in America and West Indies.

“It is very difficult for all the teams to select the team for the World Cup. No matter how good a team you choose, 2-3 players will always be left out. Rinku Singh should not have been removed. He became famous after the KKR match and then he also made his international debut.

“In my opinion, Rinku Singh has the finishing experience, which we have already seen. Not once but many times he has shown his strength. If it seems that there is an extra bowler in this selection, then Rinku Singh could have been in the team. Rashid Latif told IANS, Rinku Singh would have been selected instead of four spinners.

India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma (C), Hardik Pandya (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah.

Reserve: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khalil Ahmed, Avesh Khan
