Riding on good governance, welfare schemes, ‘double engine’ government is moving towards another victory in Bihar

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) As per available trends, Janata Dal-United leader Nitish Kumar, who is leading the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to yet another comeback in Bihar, has once again proved to be the best man for all seasons at the age of 74.

The opposition’s ‘M’ (Muslim) equation has failed in front of the ‘M’ (women – women) empowerment policies of the Nitish Kumar led NDA.

As is being repeatedly pointed out by his supporters, the emerging mandate has also returned him the title of ‘Sushasan Babu’ (Good Governance Babu).

The Chief Minister has often said that with the financial and political support of the Central Government, his government has launched many welfare schemes, which have reshaped the social landscape of Bihar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had underlined this effort when he launched the Bihar Chief Minister Mahila Rozgar Yojana for business startups in September.

He said how both the brothers – Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar – are working together for the service, prosperity and dignity of women in Bihar.

Starting from an initial financial assistance of Rs 10,000, the Mahila Income Scheme can provide up to Rs 2 lakh depending on the success of the venture.

Women in Bihar are also beneficiaries of central schemes like Jan Dhan Yojana, Lakhpati Didi, Mudra Yojana, Drone Didi Abhiyan, Bima Sakhi Abhiyan and Bank Didi, apart from several state initiatives.

Top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders like Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stood by him during the Bihar election campaign.

In the run-up to the 2020 elections, Nitish Kumar has finally overcome all the challenges.

In politics, a leader depends entirely on perception; And in surveys, it’s about converting perception into numbers.

In the last assembly elections in Bihar, JD-U contested 115 seats and won 43 seats with 15.39 per cent share of the valid votes polled in the state.

This time, at the time of writing, the party is leading on almost 80 of the 101 seats it contested, with around 19 per cent of the total valid mandates.

The other major constituent of the state NDA, the BJP, had contested 110 seats in 2020, where its candidates had secured 74 seats with 19.46 per cent share in the valid votes in Bihar.

In 2025, it is currently leading on 90 seats out of 101 seats with a vote percentage of around 21.25.

The decision of Chirag Paswan, leader of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), another NDA ally, to return to NDA is a very good sign for him.

After the defeat in 2020, when it got a lone seat out of 135 (vote share in the state was 5.66 per cent) after walking out of the alliance, it bounced back after returning to the alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and won five of the five constituencies where it had contested that time.

At the time of writing, LJP-RV is leading with 5.34 per cent vote share on 21 of the 29 seats it contested as an NDA component in the 2025 assembly elections.

These are still trends but the writing is clearly emerging on the wall of mandate, Nitish Kumar remains the leader for all seasons where NDA has proved to be a winning alliance for him on all counts.
