RGCB launched First Veterinary Medical Services Unit at Kollam

Thiruvananthapuram, Animal Husbandry Region of Kerala, Premier Central Institute – Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology (BRIC -RGCB) has opened its first veterinary medical laboratory service unit in Oyur in Kollam district in a major initiative to support BRIC -RGCB.

While its primary focus is on veterinary services, the unit will also expand clinical services to the public at affordable rates.

This facility was established in a building provided by Velineelur village Panchayat in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry.

“This feature will be a big support for animal husbandry sector, especially livestock and poultry activities. Such more units will be opened in different parts of the state,” Pro. Narayan said, the Our Center will be developed in a nodal hub for research in animal husband and agriculture.

RGCB will soon set up a collection and reporting center in government veterinary hospitals and dispensaries in Kolm district.

In its next stage, the research wing will focus on preventing the outbreak of the disease in livestock and in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry.

RGCB is already partnered with Animal Husbandry Department and Kerala Livestock Development Board on projects to increase milk, eggs and meat, as well as research on improvement in shelf life and improvement in the value of dairy and poultry products.

Beyond veterinary care, RGCB has expanded its public health laboratory network in Kerala.

Together with the State Health Department, it operates clinical services in government hospitals, including Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and General Hospital, Pala, with a hub-end-spoke model over 300 centers more than 300 centers.

Meanwhile, RGCB’s clinical and research laboratory at Cochin Cancer Research Center, Kalamasari is close to completion.

Spread over 30,000 square feet, the feature will provide clinical services serving as a dedicated cancer research hub – nominated as a model for the whole country.
