Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has sparked another major political controversy after raising questions on the plurality of Hindu deities. Addressing the ruling Congress executive meeting on Tuesday, Reddy described the longevity of the Congress by drawing a vivid analogy with the multiplicity of beliefs of Hinduism.

Reddy pointed out that, just as people worship different deities based on their personal preferences and life experiences, the Congress party also brings together people with different mindsets.

“How many gods are there in Hinduism? Three crore, they say. One bows to Lord Venkateshwara, another to Hanuman, another wears the Ayyappa garland, and yet another follows Shiva. There are also gods to whom people offer liquor and chicken. If we cannot even reach a consensus on God, how can we expect everyone to agree on a political leader?” ANI quoted the CM as saying.

His remarks have been strongly condemned by opposition parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS). They accused him of insulting Hindu sentiments and demanded a formal apology.

This was the latest in a series of statements made by Reddy during his political career. The Chief Minister has also been involved in several other controversies over the years.

Congress means Muslim Comment: Addressing a rally for the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election in Hyderabad in November, Reddy criticized Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy for refusing to include the former cricketer. Mohammad Azharuddin In the Council of Ministers of Telangana.

The CM said, “The Congress government provided many opportunities to the minorities. It was only the Congress which gave big posts to the minorities. Congress means Muslim and Muslim means Congress.”

Threat to kill: Addressing a public meeting in Delhi in August, Reddy It was said that “No matter who he is, whether he is rich or holds any position, if he comes against the order or rule of Rahul Gandhi, Telangana is going to write his death warrant.” He said, “We have come here to Jantar Mantar to spread Rahul’s message across the country.”

Beggar Comment: Last year, while attacking BJP, he had faced criticism by saying that those who are ‘demanding something by showing the picture of God, they are beggars, not Hindus’. “God should be in the temple and devotion should be in the heart. Only such people are real Hindus. BJP leaders put God’s picture on the streets and ask for votes,” he said in Armur.

Mockery of anti-defection law: In the state legislature, Reddy It was said that even if members of the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) defect to the ruling Congress, there will be no by-election. However, the Supreme Court expressed its strong disapproval in April, saying, “If this is said on the floor of the House, your Honorable Chief Minister is making a mockery of the Tenth Schedule (anti-defection law).”
