Jaipur, Nov 13 (IANS) The results of Anta assembly by-election in Rajasthan will be declared on Friday and once again the constituency has attracted attention for its unique electoral pattern.
Since its creation in 2008 following the delimitation process, ANTA has consistently reflected the party in power in Rajasthan, with every winning candidate from the constituency getting a place in the state cabinet.
In 2008, Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya won the newly created seat. The party formed the state government and Bhaya became the minister.
In 2013, BJP candidate Prabhulal Saini had won from Anta. That year BJP government was formed and Saini also became a minister.
When assembly elections were held again in 2018, Pramod Jain Bhaya took back the seat for the Congress, which once again came to power, and Bhaya returned to the cabinet.
BJP candidate Kanwarlal Meena emerged victorious in 2023. BJP formed the government, but Meena did not get a place in the cabinet.
Later, Meena was disqualified as an MLA due to his conviction in a criminal case, leading to the first ever by-election in Anta.
The by-election saw an impressive 80.21 percent turnout, with men registering 82.32 percent voting, while women registering 78 percent voting. Of the 228,264 registered voters, 183,099 cast their votes – including 96,141 men, 86,955 women and 3 others.
Over the past few years, a clear trend has emerged in the elections – candidates securing approximately 50 percent or more of the vote win. In 2023, Kanwarlal Meena (BJP) got 49.64 percent votes, in 2018, Pramod Jain Bhaya (Congress) got 58 percent votes, while in 2013, Prabhulal Saini (BJP) got 48.84 percent votes. Similarly, in 2008, Pramod Jain Bhaya (Congress) got 50.29 percent votes.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate from Anta, Morpal Suman, while speaking to IANS, said that he had never imagined of contesting elections as an MLA candidate. He said, “It is because of the blessings of the people that I am contesting the elections on a BJP ticket and it is only because of the people that I will win.”
Whereas Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya was seen throwing light on the development works taking place in Anta during his tenure. He said, “Crores of rupees were spent on the development of roads during my tenure. Many works were done during the Congress rule, however, BJP slowed down those works when it came to power.”
Independent candidate Naresh Meena campaigned questioning why no action was taken against Bhaya despite allegations of corruption.
As the results of the Anta by-election are set to be declared on November 14, all eyes are on whether this historic trend will continue – and which candidate will unlock the “secret of victory” in this politically crucial constituency.
