Several Congress leaders have reminded the public of the importance of protecting the Constitution as the nation celebrated its 76th Republic Day.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi said protecting the Constitution is the truest tribute to the sacrifice of freedom fighters, calling it the biggest weapon and shield of every Indian.
In a post wishing Republic Day on Christmas, Gandhi wrote, “Our Constitution is the greatest weapon for every Indian – it is our voice, the safeguard for our rights. Our Republic stands on the strong foundation of this document, which will only be empowered through equality and harmony.”
“To protect the Constitution is to protect the Indian Republic – it is a true tribute to the sacrifice of our freedom fighters. Jai Hind! Jai Constitution!” He added.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also commented that the need of the hour is to strongly protect the principles and spirit of the Constitution.
“Justice, liberty, equality and fraternity are enduring values given to us by our founding fathers, and it is our sacred duty to protect them. We must be prepared to make every necessary sacrifice to protect the Constitution,” Kharge said in a post on X.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged the public to pledge to protect the Constitution on Republic Day and beware of any conspiracy to weaken it.
In his message on the 77th Republic Day, he said opposing the Constitution means opposing social justice and welfare measures for the poor, farmers, workers, Dalits and the exploited.
