As India gears up for its 77th Republic Day on January 26, the National Capital Region authorities have issued extensive traffic advisories to control mobility and public safety. These measures are aimed at minimizing disruption during increased activity and adequate safety activities and ensuring uninterrupted passage for road users.
Traffic disruption has started in New Delhi from January 22 due to the rehearsal of the historic Republic Day Beating Retreat ceremony and full dress rehearsal of the Republic Day Parade. With over 10,000 security guards and cutting-edge AI technology, the city is bracing for major mobility restrictions to guarantee the procession runs smoothly.

As advised by Delhi Traffic Police, vehicular travel will be restricted on Raisina Road from Krishi Bhawan intersection towards Vijay Chowk and Vijay Chowk will remain closed for general traffic between 4-6.30 pm.
According to the statement, traffic will not be allowed beyond the roundabouts of Dara Shikoh Road, Krishna Menon Marg and Sunehri Masjid in the direction of Vijay Chowk during the rehearsal hours.
C-Hexagon (India Gate) area will be closed for all vehicles from 9.15 am on January 23. Major roads including Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg will be closed from 10.30 am on Friday (January 23). Cross-traffic will be allowed depending on how the parade progresses.

Apart from the Central Delhi limits, Gurugram traffic authorities have issued additional advisories that focus on the movement of goods vehicles. Medium and heavy goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi or Gurugram between 5 pm on January 22 and 1.30 am on January 23. Secondly, the same limit period has been set from 5 pm on January 25 to 1.30 pm on January 26.
Alternative routes suggested
Commuters should use the Ring Road via Sarai Kale Khan, Ashram Chowk and IP flyover. Alternatively, the route via Mother Teresa Crescent, Safdarjung Road and Aurobindo Marg is still accessible. Commuters can reach Ring Road, NH-24 or DND Flyway via ISBT and Azadpur.
It is suggested that drivers prepare in advance and use other routes including Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg, Madrasa T-Point, Safdarjung Road (up to Kamal Ataturk Marg), Rani Jhansi Road and Minto Road.
Commuters from South Delhi are urged to take the Ring Road to New Delhi Railway Station via Dhaula Kuan or Ajmeri Gate to bypass the blockade at Connaught Place.

According to Delhi Police, heavy vehicles from local areas of Gurugram will be diverted to other routes at several places like Hero-Honda Chowk, Shankar Chowk, Mehrauli Border, Sohna, Pataudi and Farukhnagar.
Although access to stations close to restricted areas like Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan may be limited based on security concerns, Delhi Metro services will continue as usual.

Additionally, large scale deployment of police officers and traffic assistance at major junctions will assist in enforcement and provide support at the ground level.
