The president had seemingly positive conversations with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Monday.
In a statement Monday afternoon, Frey said Trump “agreed that the current situation cannot continue,” adding: “Some federal agents will begin leaving the area tomorrow, and I will continue to push for the remaining personnel involved in this operation to leave.”
Walz said that during their conversation, the president agreed to “look into reducing the number of federal agents in Minnesota.”
Trump, meanwhile, called his two conversations with Minnesota leaders “very good.”
The president also announced that from now on he would dispatch border czar Tom Homan to oversee federal operations in Minnesota, calling him “tough but fair.” The president confirmed that Homan will report directly to Trump.
