Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are interested in Bruno Guimaraes and may offer Kalvin Phillips to Newcastle United as part of a bid.
That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (19/03, p78), who claim that City have expressed a ‘strong interest’ in signing Bruno this summer.
It’s stated that City are so interested that they would be willing to offer a part-exchange deal involving fellow midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips has barely featured for City since his £45million move from Leeds United last summer.
£80million would also be offered to Newcastle in the hope of securing a deal for the Brazilian star.
Real Madrid are interested and are allegedly expected to ramp up their interest in Bruno at the end of the season.
Newcastle are fighting to keep hold of Bruno and are offering him an improved contract to stay at St James’ Park.
This could be a fierce battle for Bruno’s services, but we’re backing Newcastle to come out victorious here.
Bruno Guimaraes leaving Newcastle seems unlikely
Pep Guardiola may well be a big fan of Bruno, and why wouldn’t he?
The former Lyon man has been simply outstanding since joining Newcastle and is usually running the show from midfield.
Bruno’s technical ability as well as his desire and work rate will all make Guardiola believe that he can fit in perfectly at City.
Yet you have to question just why Bruno would leave Newcastle right now.
Bruno appears to love life at Newcastle, the fans love him and Newcastle are pushing on towards the top four – and no doubt have bigger ambitions in the coming years.
Newcastle don’t need to sell with their riches and Phillips as part-exchange isn’t quite as appealing as it could have been given his lack of playing time this season.
Bruno will surely remain a key part of the Newcastle side for a while yet and City’s attempts surely won’t lead anywhere.
