Claudia Winkleman Already told fans traitor The much-anticipated fourth season of the hit series is about to take a “truly extraordinary” turn, just days away from airing.
The series kicks off on New Year’s Day (Thursday, January 1), and like every year, producers are once again keeping contestants on their toes by tweaking the format and introducing new gameplay.
Winkelmann tell the bbc: “What I’m trying to say is that there are some new things, things that happen in this series that are truly extraordinary and there were moments that took my breath away.”
“I can’t wait for people to see it,” the eyeliner-loving host continued. “The producers have some of the greatest minds on the planet.
“The people who created the show had to keep changing it, and they told me ideas and I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’ So, yeah, I love it.”
Her comments come as people speculate what Red cloak from promotional material for the series may mean.
Traitors who were chosen to deceive the faithful traditionally wore green cloaks. However, in the images and trailers released ahead of Season 4, Little Red Riding Hood-esque cover-up visible.
One fan speculated on Twitter: “I think the Red Cloaks will be a secret traitor character. They will be a nameless traitor that the other traitors know nothing about.
“They will work together with traitors and loyalists to reach the end,” they continued. “If they succeed, they take everything and the traitors gain nothing.”

Maddie Smedley, one of the most memorable fanboys from season 1, added: “So this whole red traitor thing… could it be a hierarchy within the traitors that would stir the pot like two red, two green traitors, or maybe like a secret traitor within the traitors??? Gosh, I just don’t know. So many theories.”
Winkelmann teased how this year’s contestants approached the game, continuing: “We’ve never seen such a great cast play this game. They play it in such an extraordinary way.
“You think, having seen this, that it’s going to go down this path – all I can say is it absolutely isn’t.”
“A traitor unknown to the audience?” one fan suggested in a reply.
The fourth regular series follows the first UK Celebrity Edition, which became the most watched TV show of 2025 with 15 million people tuning in Renegade Alan Carr stole £87,500 from UK neuroblastoma charity of his choice.
Following the huge success of the debut, a second celebrity series is in the works, Many celebrities are vying for a spot in the castle.
The fourth series of Renegades will air on New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January) at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
