In a post on LinkedIn, Chandrasekaran wrote along with a photo of the two sharing a quiet moment at an awards ceremony in July 2024, “Happy Birthday, Mr. Tata. Miss you. Today and always.” “Remembering Shri Ratan N Tata today on his 88th birth anniversary,” the Tata Group said in a post on Twitter.
Ratan Tata, who led the Tata Group from 1991 to 2012 and briefly served as interim chairman again in 2016–17, is widely credited with transforming the century-old conglomerate into a global enterprise. During his tenure, the group made landmark international acquisitions including Jaguar Land Rover, Corus and Tetley, reshaping Tata’s footprint on the world stage.
Beyond business, Ratan Tata is equally known for his emphasis on ethics, nation-building and philanthropy. Through the Tata Trusts, he supported issues such as education, health care, rural development and scientific research. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Ratan Tata reshaped Indian enterprise with integrity and compassion, his journey from building indigenous industries to selfless philanthropy showed that true success lies in the service of the nation.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu described him as a visionary industrialist and compassionate leader and said that his honesty, humility and commitment to society will continue to inspire generations.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal also paid tribute, saying Ratan Tata’s leadership combined innovation with compassion and helped redefine the role of Indian enterprise in national development.
