New Delhi, Nov 12 (IANS) At least eight people were killed and dozens injured in a terrorist blast in a car at Delhi’s Red Fort, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and property and directed to investigate the incident with “utmost urgency” to quickly identify all the “perpetrators” and “sponsors” and bring them to justice. The Cabinet observed a two-minute silence in honor of the innocent people killed and called the November 10 incident “a heinous terrorist incident perpetrated by anti-national forces”. Expressing its sincere respect to the victims of this “senseless act of violence”, the Cabinet expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of all those injured. It also praised the prompt efforts of medical personnel and emergency responders who are providing care and assistance to the victims of the “cowardly and dastardly act” which “led to the loss of innocent lives”. Highlighting India’s unwavering commitment to the policy of “zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations”, it appreciated the “statements of solidarity and support from many governments around the world”. It also lauded the efforts of concerned security agencies, other officials and civilians who “acted with courage and compassion under adverse circumstances”. “Cabinet directs that the incident be investigated with utmost promptness and professionalism so that the perpetrators, their associates and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice without any delay,” it said. “The situation is being closely monitored at the highest levels of the government,” it said. The meeting came hours after PM Modi went straight to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital after returning from Bhutan on Wednesday, where he met the Red Fort blast victims admitted there. –IANS SAS/VD
