Patna, Nov 7 (IANS) JDU national working president and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Kumar Jha on Friday said the record turnout in the first phase of Bihar assembly elections shows clear public support for the NDA.
He said that women voters came to vote in large numbers this time and called it a proof of their faith in the policies of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
A record 64.66 percent voting took place in the first phase of Bihar Assembly, which is the highest in the electoral history of the state.
“The turnout recorded on Thursday in the first phase of voting is due to the overwhelming wave in favor of the NDA. Women are coming out in large numbers – this is the result of Nitish Kumar’s work in governance, education, health and women empowerment,” he said.
Jha said reports from JDU candidates show that the NDA will win the elections by a huge margin.
According to him, voters have risen above caste and religion and voted in favor of development and stability.
Jha also reacted sharply to the remarks of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, who had said that nothing has been done for women in the last 20 years and accused the government of offering election bribes.
Hitting back at the Congress leader, Jha said, “Priyanka Gandhi does not know the reality of Bihar.”
Saying that a silent revolution has taken place in Bihar, he cited reservation for women in panchayats, Kanya Utthan Yojana, cycle scheme, nutrition programs and self-help groups as examples of women-centric initiatives under CM Nitish.
Jha further said that voters in Bihar are now much more aware and are voting for development not on the basis of emotions but on the basis of logic and achievements.
As voting percentage increased, political parties are reading the trend differently – JD(U) claims it is pro-NDA, while the opposition says it reflects public anger.
The results will be known only after the results are declared.
The second phase of voting is to be held on November 11 and the results will be declared on November 14.
