Chennai, Nov 10 (IANS) In a shocking incident that came to public notice, a 25-year-old realtor was brutally murdered by a five-member gang inside the police quarters in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchi on Monday morning.
The attack shocked the entire city as it happened close to the residential police facility in Marsingapettai and coincided with Chief Minister MK Stalin’s visit to Tiruchi.
According to police sources, residents of Bhim Nagar Main Road saw a group of men armed with deadly weapons chasing a youth.
The frightened victim, later identified as 25-year-old Thamaraiselvan, a local realtor, ran towards the nearby police quarters to seek shelter. However, the attackers continuously chased him and surrounded him inside the compound before attacking him with sharp weapons.
Eyewitnesses said that despite the police being in a residential area, the gang showed no hesitation.
A local resident said, “He ran to the police quarters screaming for help, but the gang chased him and beat him repeatedly.”
The victim suffered multiple deep wounds, especially on his head, and died on the spot before police personnel could intervene.
While most of the attackers fled the scene immediately after the attack, shocking residents and police, alert members of the public managed to catch one of the attackers and handed him over to the police.
The suspect was taken into custody for questioning and police teams have launched a massive raid to trace the remaining four gang members.
Senior police officials including Tiruchi Police Commissioner reached the spot and conducted investigation. Forensic teams collected evidence, and Thamaraiselvan’s body was sent to the Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
Preliminary investigation suggests the murder may be linked to a previous dispute, possibly related to real estate transactions, although police have not ruled out other motives.
Given that the incident occurred when Chief Minister Stalin was in the city for an official programme, additional security was immediately deployed in Tiruchi to prevent any further disturbances. The police have registered a case of murder and are investigating all possible angles to find out the motive behind the brutal murder which took place in broad daylight.
