‘Really humbled…’: Venkaiah Naidu dedicates his Padma Vibhushan award to farmers, women and youth

The Central Government has decided to honor former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu with Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award under the public affairs category.

Apart from Naidu, the award will be given to actors like Chiranjeevi and Vyjayanthimala Bali, Bindeshwar Pathak (posthumously) and Padma Subramaniam.

Sharing his joy on microblogging site X, Naidu posted that he is truly humbled by this honor and has dedicated this award to the farmers, women, youth of India and all my fellow citizens.

Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service. The awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day.

For the year 2024, the President has approved the conferment of 132 Padma awards, including 2 doubles cases (in a doubles case, the award is counted as one).

The list includes 5 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 110 Padma Shri awards. Of the awardees, 30 are women and the list also includes 8 individuals from the Foreigner/NRI/PIO/OCI category and 9 posthumous awardees.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah heartily congratulated those who brought change in the society.

He said that PM Narendra Modi has rationalized the Padma Awards ceremony and made it a platform to appreciate individuals who set leading examples for social change.

Shah further said that the Padma awardees have not only set exemplary examples for others but have also brought pride to the country with their service.
