UK may have to face another cool photo As the weather phenomenon that 2018 brought’beast from the east‘ seems certain to have a “significant impact” on the country’s weather.
The Met Office said “Winter has come early across BritainAfter a week of snow and ice, cold Arctic air is bringing a complex mix of weather hazards weather warning In all parts of the UK.
Temperatures are set to rise this weekend as milder, more unsettled, Atlantic-driven weather arrives with clouds, rain and winds, but Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) Next week’s event could lead to a return of cold weather over the next two weeks.
SSW involves a rapid increase in temperature in the stratosphere above the North Pole, often leading to a reversal of stratospheric polar vortex winds, which involves the rapid descent of cold air.
According to forecasters, this increases the chance of cold weather in Britain 10 to 14 days later by about 70 percent. Although not guaranteed, meteorologists will keep a close eye on the weather phenomenon, which could lead to a colder than average start to winter.
“The country is facing a wide range of conditions, from the collision of Arctic and North African air masses to the effects of heavy rain, flooding and heavy snowfall,” the forecaster said. “regional differences are marked, with some areas receiving substantial snowfall while other areas experience sunny skies and cool nights. The outlook remains uncertain with the potential for even colder and more unsettled weather as the season progresses.”
The SSW was the same weather phenomenon that spawned the brutal ‘Beast from the East’ in 2018, which brought cold air from Siberia to Europe and heavy snowfall to Great Britain and Ireland. Temperatures fell across the country with a low of -14.7C recorded in Faversham, Kent and Storm Emma brought 50cm of snowfall in some highland areas.
Temperatures fell well below average for this time of year across the country this week, with the wind chill making it feel even colder and temperatures widely being recorded one or two degrees below zero. The Met Office recorded a low of -11.7C at Loch Glascarnoch on Thursday night, the coldest night so far this season.
The recent Arctic air mass brought snowfall to the UK this week, as schools across the country were forced to close, with yellow and amber ice and snow weather warnings issued for parts of the UK.
