Ranchi, October 13 (IANS) Piyush Pushp, a 20-year-old youth from Ranchi, tragically lost his life in a plane crash during pilot training in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Piyush, a resident of Argora Kathal Mod, Lajpat Nagar, Ranchi, was the son of TN Sahu, a retired teacher of Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali.
He was undergoing flight training at the Vulcan Aviation Institute, one of South Africa’s prestigious aviation academies.
According to preliminary information shared by the institute, the training aircraft developed a sudden technical fault mid-air, leading to the accident.
Piyush suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital in Johannesburg, where he died during treatment.
Family sources said Piyush had moved to South Africa earlier this year to pursue his dream of becoming a commercial pilot.
He recently told his father that he is close to completing his flying certification and is looking forward to returning to India soon to join an airline.
The news of his death reached the family through an official communication from the training institute late on Sunday night.
The Indian Consulate in Johannesburg has been informed and the process to bring his body back to India has been initiated.
An alumnus of Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Piyush was known among teachers and friends for his discipline, intelligence and quiet determination. His teachers described him as a “brilliant and ambitious” student who was fascinated by aviation since childhood.
After the news of the accident, there was mourning in Argora Lajpat Nagar area. Since Monday morning, neighbors, teachers and classmates have been coming to the Sahu family’s residence to express their condolences.
A family friend said, “The entire area is in shock. Piyush was humble, hard-working and full of dreams. His demise is an irreparable loss.”
South African authorities have not yet released an official report on the exact cause and circumstances of the accident. Vulcan Aviation Institute has assured the family that a thorough internal investigation is underway.
