New Delhi:
The high-level committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’ chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday reviewed the progress made since its establishment last September, an official statement said.
The statement said the committee “reviewed its various activities” at its meeting on Saturday.
The panel is reviewing the progress made by it since it was set up in September last year.
The committee has been entrusted with the task of examining and making recommendations for holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha, State Assemblies, Municipalities and Panchayats, keeping in mind the existing constitutional framework.
While the ruling BJP and other parties including Shiv Sena and Janata Dal (United) have supported the concept of simultaneous elections, opposition parties including Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) have rejected the idea.
