Ahmedabad, November 3 (IANS) Rajkot Police has got a breakthrough in the firing incident that took place outside a hospital in the city. The Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested two more accused for helping in the shootout related to the ongoing rivalry between Penda and Murga gangs.
The two arrested accused have been identified as Kamlesh and Bharat Dabhi.
Both were caught from Samdhiyala village of Babara in Amreli district, where they were hiding after the attack. Police have started the process of obtaining his remand for further questioning.
According to the investigation, three different weapons were used in the shooting, which took place near Mangala Main Road around midnight on October 29, when members of rival gangs opened fire on each other, injuring one person.
Neither gang lodged a formal complaint after the incident, following which the police had to file a suo motu FIR against 11 persons from both the groups. Six empty cartridges and one live bullet were recovered from the spot.
After investigation based on CCTV, the police had earlier arrested seven suspects, including Harshdeep alias Mateo Zala, Jaivika alias Montu Rojsara, Jignesh alias Bhaylu Gadhvi, Himmat alias Kalu Langa Gadhvi, Luckyrajsingh Zala, Manishdan Gadhvi and Parimal alias Pariyo Solanki.
The officials also seized two country-made pistols, three cartridges and a car worth over Rs 3.75 lakh. Preliminary investigation reveals that the gang war broke out over a woman who was allegedly associated with a member of the Murga gang. The rivalry between the two groups has been going on for about ten months, with several retaliatory shootings – including incidents in January, February and August this year.
The latest arrests take the total number of accused held in the Rajkot shooting case to nine, as police continue a statewide search operation for the remaining suspects. Officials said the operation to nab the fugitives is ongoing, with the city police determined to dismantle both the gangs and restore peace in Rajkot.
