Jaipur, Oct 10 (IANS) Jhunjhunu police, in a joint operation with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and Pilani police, have seized 365.7 kg of stolen silver worth about Rs 6.4 crore and arrested three accused in connection with the case. Officials gave this information on Friday.
The silver, believed to have been stolen from Chennai, was recovered from a house in Pilani in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan.
Acting on the instructions of Superintendent of Police (SP) Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay and under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Devendra Singh Rajawat and Circle Officer Vikas Dhindwal, the action was carried out by AGTF in-charge SHO Ranjit Singh Sevda.
The accused have been identified as Vikas Jangid (33), a resident of Keharpura Khurd (Jhunjhunu); Nikhil Jangid (24), resident of Keharpura Khurd (Jhunjhunu) and Rajbir Jangid (31), resident of Badi Thirpali (Churu).
On the instructions of SP Upadhyay, AGTF and Pilani Police took this action with utmost secrecy.
On receiving information from Chennai Police, the AGTF team started trailing the suspects and scanned multiple CCTV cameras from Jaipur to Pilani and relied on technical intelligence to track the location of the criminals.
After tireless efforts, the AGTF team identified the house of Dharampal Jangid in a colony on Rajgarh Road.
When the team raided the house, a cache of silver hidden inside was recovered.
The recovered silver included utensils, bricks and decorative items.
Officials said Chennai Police provided intelligence about the movements of the suspects, prompting the AGTF and Pilani police to take swift action.
Investigators scanned dozens of CCTV cameras along the route from Jaipur to Pilani and used technical surveillance to track the suspects.
Acting on the spot, the police raided a house on Rajgarh Road in Pilani, where the stolen silver was found hidden.
At present, all three suspects have been arrested under preventive charges related to disturbing public peace.
Jhunjhunu Police is waiting for the arrival of Chennai Police team, after which formal handover and further legal action will be taken.
