Jaipur, Nov 1 (IANS) In a major breakthrough under Operation Chakravyuh, Pratapgarh police in Rajasthan have seized a huge consignment of synthetic drug MD (mephedrone) worth about Rs 5 crore and arrested a smuggler, an official said.
This campaign was conducted on the special instructions of District Superintendent of Police B.Aditya.
According to officials, a joint team of District Special Team (DST) and Hathunia police station stopped a motorcyclist during a blockade on Bagalia-Barotha road on Friday.
Upon search, police recovered 2 kg 227 grams of MD from a bag on the motorcycle.
SP Aditya said that the team under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Circle Pratapgarh) Gajendra Singh Rao and station in-charge Inderjit Parmar was doing intensive checking as part of the campaign.
During checking, a motorcycle came from Bagalia. When the signal to stop was given, the rider tried to run away but the police team quickly surrounded and caught him.
The accused was identified as Akbar Pathan (40), resident of Kotri. When interrogated, he failed to give any satisfactory explanation about the escape attempt. A detailed examination of the motorcycle led to the recovery of smuggled goods.
During interrogation, Pathan allegedly confessed that he had obtained the MD drug from Badru alias Peer Mohammed, resident of Bagalia and was taking it to deliver it to Nayum, son of Namroz Khan Pathan of Kotdi.
Police have arrested Akbar Pathan and registered a case under NDPS Act in Hathunia police station.
MD’s consignment and the motorcycle without number have been seized. SP Aditya said the investigation has been expanded to expose the entire network involved in the illegal drug trade, which is suspected to have international links.
In the successful operation, DST in-charge ASI Panna Lal along with constables Vinod Kumar, Narendra Singh, Pankaj, Sandeep Kumar, Hemendra and Ramesh Chandra of Cyber Cell, Pratapgarh played an important role.
