Jaipur, Nov 26 (IANS) Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde on Wednesday said the Constitution of India reflects the civilizational values of the country and honors the heroes of Sanatan Sanskriti through the images included in its original manuscript.
He made this comment while addressing the Constitution Day celebrations organized at Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University (MDSU), where he also visited the Constitution Garden.
During the ceremony, the university’s newspaper Triveni – covering recent institutional activities – was released.
In his address, the Governor said that the Constitution is “the language of the hearts of the people of India”, and its implementation symbolizes the spirit of self-surrender, the surrender of one’s heart and soul to its principles. Reflecting on the journey of drafting, Governor Bagde said that the document is strongly based on the values of Sanatan culture.
He said that the photographs of great personalities who protected the cultural heritage of the country are inscribed in the original copy of the Constitution and it should be a matter of pride for all citizens.
Governor Bagde said that the Constitution’s guarantee of freedom of expression should not be misused to insult any person.
The Rajasthan Governor said that India is continuously progressing, with the contribution of people from all walks of life helping the country move towards the goal of becoming a developed country. He emphasized that the energy and innovation of the young generation will further accelerate this development.
Education should combine knowledge with values, he said, because expansion of intellectual capacity promotes research which ultimately contributes to national development.
National President of All India National Educational Federation and keynote speaker at the event, Professor Narayan Lal Gupta, said that the members of the Constituent Assembly lived lives marked by idealism, dedication and inclusivity.
He said the Constitution has proven capable of providing stable governance amid major social and economic changes and continues to provide guidance to the world with its vision.
Adopted on November 26, 1949, the Constitution of India is one of the most detailed foundational documents in the world, laying down the institutional framework, fundamental rights, Directive Principles and federal provisions that balance diversity with unity.
Often described as a living document, it has evolved through amendments and historical judicial interpretations while retaining its core commitment to justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. Its drafting, led by Dr BR Ambedkar and based on extensive debates, reflected the aspirations of a new independent nation, seeking continuity with its civilizational ethos and synergy with modern democratic ideals.
