Jaipur, October 27 (IANS) Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma held important meetings with Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during his visit to New Delhi on Monday.

The discussion focused on strengthening the economic, rural and agricultural development of Rajasthan. During the meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Chouhan, the Chief Minister held extensive discussions with senior officials of the Ministry on key farmer-oriented initiatives.

Several important decisions were taken including continuation of traditional irrigation tank system in Rajasthan, increase in State share under “Per Drop More Crop” scheme, increase in indicative allocation, inclusion of fencing program under sub-schemes of National Food Security and Nutrition Mission and approval of grant for barbed wire fencing under Pulses sub-scheme.

Chief Minister Sharma expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister for the prompt and positive decisions taken in the interest of the farmers and rural community of Rajasthan.

Union Minister Chauhan appreciated the dedicated efforts of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma towards the development of the state. He said that under the leadership of Sharma, Rajasthan is developing rapidly and the schemes of the Central Government are being implemented effectively.

He said that, on the request of the Chief Minister, several new crops have been included under the fencing programme, and eight low productivity districts have been brought under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaniya Krishi Yojana. Under this initiative, 36 schemes of 11 departments will be implemented in these districts to boost agricultural productivity and income of farmers.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Sharma had earlier also written a letter to the Union Agriculture Minister requesting him to remove the restrictions on dam construction and increase the central grant for major agricultural schemes.

Later, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma paid a courtesy call on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The two leaders discussed matters related to fiscal growth of Rajasthan, better financial management of ongoing schemes and the recently launched GST Savings Mahotsav. Expressing his gratitude to the Finance Minister, the Chief Minister said that the reduction in GST rates implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided direct relief to the common man by making essential commodities more affordable.

He said that GST Bachat Utsav has encouraged citizens to buy indigenous products during the festive season, thereby promoting the spirit of ‘Make in India’ and contributing to the growth of local industries.
