Jaipur, November 18 (IANS) BJP state in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agarwal on Tuesday claimed that the recent Anta by-election has proved how impartially the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conducts elections.
Speaking to the media at the Jaipur airport, Agarwal said the BJP heads both the state and central governments, and knew for six months that the Anta bypoll was approaching.
Commenting on the Congress’ victory in the by-election, he said, “If we had wanted to control the election through political pressure, voter list or administrative influence, the election would have been in our pocket. But we conducted it with complete honesty and 100 per cent fairness, respecting public sentiment.”
Aggarwal said that BJP wins many elections across the country and hence it has no hesitation in losing some elections.
He commented, “We win a lot of elections. If we keep helping them win an election or two occasionally, they will survive.” He suggested that the Anta result reflects the ruling party’s commitment to democratic principles rather than manipulation.
While making the comparison, he cited the recent elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “We lost most of the seats in Srinagar, where there was 70 per cent voting. In Antah, the turnout was even higher at 81 per cent. The Antah elections are a slap on the face of those who accuse the BJP of vote theft. This is a victory for the principles of the BJP and a proof that we believe in democracy.”
Taking aim at former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Aggarwal said, “Ashok Gehlot has gradually become outdated.”
He argued that the BJP’s victory in Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi last year reflected a strong synergy between public sentiment and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message.
He said, “Whatever communication PM Modi makes reaches directly into the hearts of the people.”
Attacking the Congress, Aggarwal said that the party depended on rhetoric for 65 years by giving the slogan of eradicating poverty. He claimed, “They raised slogans and exterminated the poor. In the last 11 years, we have transformed the lives of the poor and the middle class.”
Clarifying his role, Aggarwal said that he has no involvement in the Anta by-election. He reiterated, “Winning and losing is part of political life. The party was fully engaged and senior leaders were keeping an eye on the elections. We win many elections, but if we let them win occasionally, they will survive.”
