Jaipur, November 1 (IANS) Barmer district police in Rajasthan has got a big success in the investigation of the illegal MD drug factory caught on July 22 in Dholakia Kartiya area of Sedwa police station area.
Barmer Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh Meena said that the police has arrested Rohan Prabhakar Gawans (44), a resident of Malad West, Mumbai, a major supplier of chemical components.
SP Singh said the Gavans, owners of Rohan Chemicals Pvt Ltd in Raigarh, Maharashtra, were allegedly supplying chemical ingredients like chloroform, ammonium chloride, acid and toluene to drug smugglers in the state for several years.
He said that during the raid on July 22, the police busted an illegal MD manufacturing unit in Dholakia Kartiya.
“The team seized 39.25 kg MD material, 290.84 kg liquid chemicals and 5.33 kg white powder, which is enough to produce narcotics worth approximately Rs 100 crore,” he said.
SP Singh said that two accused, Mangilal, resident of Dholakia Kartiya and Birju Jayendra Shukla, resident of Mumbai, were arrested from the spot.
“Further investigation revealed that Gavans had supplied the chemicals used in the factory,” he said.
SP Singh said that to arrest him, a special team under the leadership of Chauhtan police station officer Rajuram Vishnoi was sent to Mumbai, where Gawans was arrested under the production warrant.
“The accused is already booked in four cases under the NDPS Act. Intensive investigation is underway to unearth the widespread interstate and possibly international drug network,” he said.
SP Singh said that NCB (Gujarat) and Maharashtra Police also raided Gawans factory in Raigarh district and seized a large quantity of chemicals.
“In Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district, MD manufacturing equipment and excess chemical stock were seized in a joint operation by police and NCB. Seven accused have been arrested so far in the Sedwa MD factory case, while several key suspects are absconding,” he said.
He said that those arrested include Rohan Gawans, Mangilal, Birju Shukla, Machindra Tukaram Bhosale, Sushant Santosh Patil, Ganpat Singh and Kamlesh alias Karthik.
“Ganpat Singh and Kamlesh had a reward of Rs 25,000 each. The remaining wanted suspects include Ramesh alias Anil Bishnoi (reward of Rs 1 lakh) and others from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha,” SP Singh said.
