Rain forecast Myanmar connects problems faced by earthquake victims

Arun Jain, 07/04/2025

Bangkok:

People were hanging for thunderstorms late on Sunday night in the areas stricken by Myanmar earthquake, last night after heavy rains and winds disrupted rescue and relief operations and added to the grief of many people who lost their homes in disaster and were forced to sleep in the open.

Myanmar’s state-driven MRTV reported on Sunday evening that there were rain and thunderstorms across the country for next week.

MRTV said, “The public is advised to be aware of the possibility of untimely rain with strong winds, electricity, jai and landslides.” The temperature of the week is expected to reach 38 ° C (100 ° F) by the middle of the week.

On March 28, the 7.7 magnitude earthquake was near Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar. This hit a wide health of the country, causing significant damage to six regions and states, including the capital Naypyitaw.

Major General Zo Min Tun, a spokesman of the military government, said in an audio message to reporters on Sunday that 3,564 people have been confirmed dead so far, with 5,012 others injured and 210 are missing.

The earthquake left many areas without electricity, telephone or cell connection and damaged roads and bridges, leading to an obstruction of damage assessment.

An official of the Myanmar Rescue Federation (Mandle) told Associated Press on Sunday that the rescue team temporarily had to temporarily shut down the electrical appliances and machines used in search operations due to rain on Saturday and Sunday, making the work more difficult, but not stopping it.

The officers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was afraid of being arrested by the army without any authority, said that rescuers would continue searching the search despite the possibility of excess rain.

Another rescueer working in Mandalay, while speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that some buildings fell due to rain and strong winds, causing more difficulty for those seeking shelters.

Irawadi, an online Myanmar news site working in exile, reported that after removing the walls and debris on Sunday afternoon, at least 80 bodies were found in the debris of the Great Wall Hotel in Divisional. Its report could not be immediately confirmed.

The Myanmar Fire Services Department said in a statement on Sunday that the rescue team recovered five bodies from the collapsed buildings in Mandalay.

Myanmar has been a military government since February 2021, when the army excluded the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. This does not criticize, and pro -democracy is engaged in a civil war against resistance forces and ethnic minority guerrilla forces.

The earthquake left several areas without electricity, telephone or cell connection and damaged roads and bridges, making it difficult to assess the entire range of destruction.

Myanmar’s military government has said that 5,223 buildings, 1,824 schools, 2,752 Buddhist monastery quarters, 4,817 pagoda and temples, 167 hospitals and clinics, 169 bridges, 198 dams and 184 segments of the country’s main highway were damaged by earthquakes.
