Bhopal, Nov 8 (IANS) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday encouraged the party leadership and grassroots workers in Madhya Pradesh and urged them to further strengthen the organizational network ahead of the 2028 state assembly elections and 2029 general elections.

His visit also included a scathing attack on the BJP-led governments at the Center and the state over their alleged neglect of the welfare of school children.

Addressing a high-level training session of district presidents as part of the party’s ‘organisation creation drive’ in the colonial hill town of Pachmarhi – which included senior Congress leaders including former chief minister Digvijay Singh, tribal leader Kantilal Bhuria, Umang Singhar, Jitu Patwari, Kamleshwar Patel, Arun Yadav, Ajay Singh and Dr Govind Singh – Rahul Gandhi asked district level leaders to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and help farmers in rural constituencies. Called for raising the concerns of.

Digvijay Singh presented a detailed three-year strategic roadmap aimed at activating the party’s campaign machinery and reconnecting with voters in the hinterland of the state.

The party president stressed teamwork and cooperation across party lines, and especially addressed the workers sitting on the floor, underlining his inclusive approach.

In a sign of personal reach, Rahul Gandhi held extensive discussions with district Congress presidents on organizational matters and later attended dinner with their families, promoting camaraderie within the cadre.

The Congress leader’s visit took a sharp political turn through a video message posted on his X handle, where he slammed BJP governments over the poor condition of mid-day meals at a government school in Sheopur district.

Viral photos showed children eating food served in discarded newspapers, sparking widespread outrage.

Rahul Gandhi said, “Even after 20 years of BJP rule, children do not have plates to eat mid-day meal.” He described it as “embarrassing” for both Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He wrote in a scathing post, “These are the same innocent children on whose dreams the future of the country depends, and they do not even get a plate of respect. There has been a BJP government for more than 20 years, and even the children’s plate has been stolen – their ‘development’ is just an illusion.”

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to stay overnight in Pachmarhi and will go to Bhopal by helicopter on Sunday for further programs.

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to attend the deliberations, highlighting the strategic importance of Madhya Pradesh as a key battleground ahead of the national elections, party sources said.

With the Congress aiming to regain lost ground in the Hindi heartland, Rahul Gandhi’s visit signals an aggressive revival strategy – involving a mix of organizational makeover with sharp criticism of the ruling BJP’s governance failures.
