Guwahati, Nov 14 (IANS) Continuing his dig at Rahul Gandhi after the Grand Alliance’s defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections on Friday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the Congress leader’s “vote stealing” remarks gave a decisive mandate in favor of the BJP in the recently concluded elections.
“People have not taken Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft comment positively; rather, this statement has forced people to vote in huge numbers in favor of the BJP-led alliance. The Congress party was wiped out in the election results. Voters ousted the Congress from Bihar, and the BJP-led alliance won the state with a larger mandate,” Sarma told reporters here.
The Chief Minister argued that the NDA can win the elections in Bihar due to the pro-people policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar.
He said, “It was the good governance of the Prime Minister that attracted the voters to vote for the ruling coalition. I believe that, in the coming days, all-round development will continue in Assam, Bihar and other states and India will become a developed nation in 2047.”
Making fun of Rahul Gandhi after the election defeat in Bihar, Sarma sarcastically said that the Congress leader is the biggest “star campaigner” of the BJP. Speaking to reporters here, Sarma said, “I had repeatedly mentioned the fact during the election campaign in Bihar that wherever Rahul Gandhi campaigns, the BJP is set to win those seats. This is true, and if Rahul Gandhi decides to campaign in Assam, we will welcome him as he will ensure BJP’s victory in the upcoming assembly elections.”
The Chief Minister also took a dig at the recent meeting of opposition parties to form a united front to put up a strong fight against the BJP in the next elections. He said, “The meeting of opposition parties was actually called to discuss the marriage of an opposition leader. We should not worry about the opposition parties here and more importantly, if Akhil Gogoi is present somewhere, then there should be a disaster.”
Notably, in a landslide election result that cemented the National Democratic Alliance’s strong hold on Bihar, the ruling alliance breached the majority mark of 122. Led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), the NDA’s numbers were strengthened by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s landslide victory.
