Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and called him the “lucky charm” of the Congress party.

Addressing the Prajadvani Yatra 2 here, he said, “Rahul Gandhi walked from Chamarajanagar to Raichur as part of the historic Bharatjodha pilgrimage. Congress party on the pilgrimage to Karnataka On the way he won all the seats and came to power. He was a lucky charmer.”

“Rahul Gandhi represented the people against inflation and unemployment. Last time the people of Mandya gave 7 out of 8 seats to the Congress. I am sure the people will support this time too. I will not talk about the opposition candidates , because he was not there for the people of Mandya in their time of need,” he said.

He further said that the Congress is thinking of building the lives of the people while the BJP is thinking of exploiting the people emotionally.

“I have sworn to complete the Mekedatu project. Even with the ‘Twin Engine Sarkar’, the Center did not sanction the Mekedatu project. Despite difficult conditions, we provided water to the people of the area,” Mr Shivakumar added.

“Rahul Gandhi called JDS the B-team of the BJP in the last elections. Now, JDS has officially joined hands with the BJP as a team. Star Chandru is not the only candidate in Mandya, DK Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjuna Khage are candidates,” he said.

He further said that Kumaraswamy deceived the people who elected you to the Legislative Assembly and has now come to deceive the people of Mandya.

“Why did JDS field Kumaraswamy? Doesn’t the party have anyone from Mandya? Many leaders worked hard to make him chief minister when they could have secured the seat. He cheated the people who elected you to the Legislative Assembly, Now here again the Congress will have 20 seats including Mandya, Hassan, Bengaluru Rural and Kolar,” he said.

“Women of the state are fighting for their self-respect. You have done the right thing by condemning those who say women are being lost due to safeguard schemes. Thousands of JDS workers are joining Congress, former JDS MLA Srinivas joins Congress today Congress,” he said.

“BJP state president Vijayendra said the Congress guarantee is temporary. He said if the BJP comes to power, he will stop these guarantee schemes. They need to understand that guarantee schemes are part of people’s lives and livelihood. I dare Say you want to stop these guarantee schemes,” challenged Mr. Shivakumar.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress and JD-S joined forces to fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the coalition suffered heavy losses. The BJP won a record 25 seats; the Congress and the JD-S won just one seat each.

Janata Dal (Secular), the alliance partner of the BJP, is contesting from Mandya this time in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Karnataka will go to polls in two phases.

The southern part of the state will go to the second phase of voting on April 26, and the northern part of the state will go to the third and second phase of voting on May 7.
