Rahul Gandhi called the results of Bihar ‘surprising’, fierce fight will continue for the Constitution

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday broke his silence on the defeat in Bihar, calling the NDA’s win of over 200 seats “truly surprising” and declaring that the election was “not fair from the very beginning”.

In a post on Twitter, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi thanked millions of ‘Mahagathbandhan’ voters, signaling a sharp confrontation with the ruling establishment over democratic institutions.

He wrote, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the lakhs of voters of Bihar who placed their faith in the Grand Alliance.”

“This result in Bihar is truly surprising. We failed to win an election which was not fair from the beginning. This fight is to protect the Constitution and democracy. The Congress Party and the Indian alliance will review this result deeply and intensify their efforts to protect democracy.”

This statement came when the Grand Alliance was reduced to less than 40 seats, while the Congress itself was reduced to a humiliating 5-6 seats after contesting on 61 seats.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s words echoed party colleague Jairam Ramesh’s earlier allegation of “large-scale vote theft”, but stopped short of directly naming the Prime Minister, Home Minister or the Election Commission.

Congress insiders revealed that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held a virtual meeting with Bihar in-charges late in the evening, directing a “forensic audit” of voter deletions, booth-level anomalies and EVM movement logs.

While party workers claimed that over 18 lakh names – mostly from Muslim, Dalit and EBC areas – were removed during the special summary revision, the Election Commission counted it as “standard cleaning of 14.7 lakh duplicates and 3.2 lakh dead”.

Within the India block, responses were measured. RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, whose party dropped from 75 to 31 seats, praised Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s “moral clarity” but urged the focus to be on “organizational collapse” rather than institutional sabotage alone.

CPI(ML) Liberation’s Dipankar Bhattacharya supported the “unfair elections” line, citing the CCTV blackout in 127 strong rooms.

BJP immediately pounced. Spokesperson Sambit Patra called it “the cry of a prince who lost his toy empire”, while Amit Shah posted a video of women voters giving credit to Nitish Kumar’s welfare schemes.

Patra wrote, “The daughters of Bihar rejected dynasty politics. Rahul ji should introspect instead of insulting their decision.”

As the Congress prepares for municipal elections in Delhi and Rajasthan, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s pledge to “intensify” the constitutional fight signals a new Bharat Jodo phase focused on nationwide protests, legal challenges to the Election Commission’s amendment process and electoral integrity.
