Raghopur, a rural constituency across the Ganges from Patna, has long been a political stronghold of the Yadav family. Until 1995, it was relatively unknown, but this changed when Lalu Prasad Yadav left his Sonpur seat to contest from Raghopur. Since then, the constituency has remained in the hands of the family.
Raghopur has elected two chief ministers, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, and one deputy chief minister, Tejashwi Yadav. Except in 2010, when JDU candidate Satish Kumar Yadav defeated Rabri Devi, Lalu Yadav’s family has never lost here.
Raghopur is part of Vaishali district and falls under Hajipur Lok Sabha seat. The region has produced many Union ministers including Ram Vilas Paswan, Chirag Paswan and Pashupati Kumar Paras.
Yadavs constitute more than 31% of the voters, while Scheduled Castes constitute about 18.5% and Muslims about 3.3%. This has made Raghopur a safe seat for RJD for a long time. In 2020, Tejashwi Yadav won easily.
Raghopur: Voting date
