Queen Margrethe released a new portrait to celebrate her 84th birthday on Tuesday (April 17) after she was shocked when fire engulfed the historic building in Denmark.

The country’s historic stock exchange building in Copenhagen caught fire on the same day the Queen celebrated her birthday.

King Frederic issued a statement on the devastating fire, which caused one of the city’s oldest buildings to lose its iconic spire, saying it was an important part of the country’s culture. It’s a “sad sight.”

The recently abdicated Queen has shared two new royal portraits to mark her milestone. In one photo, Margaret is wearing a lavender dress and large gold earrings, standing by a window of Fredensborg Castle.

In the second photo, the Queen is seen with her adorable pup Telia. She celebrated the occasion “privately in the company of family and friends.”

Margaret’s birthday this year is important because it is her first since she abdicated the throne to her eldest son Frederick and his wife Mary in January. She is the first Danish monarch to voluntarily abdicate in nearly 900 years.
