Dmitry Medvedev, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, called Joe Biden a “crazy” disgrace to the United States on Friday and said the US president had no right to compare himself to Franklin Roosevelt.
In his State of the Union address on Thursday, Biden referenced a 1941 speech to Congress in which Roosevelt said the United States faced a turning point unprecedented in history.
Biden also accused Republican rival Donald Trump of kowtowing to Russia, more than two weeks after calling Vladimir Putin a “crazy bastard” and saying he had a message for the Russian president on Ukraine : “We’re not going away.”
“While FDR was a frail man in a wheelchair who pulled America out of the Great Depression, Biden, on the other hand, is a deranged, mentally disturbed man hell-bent on dragging humanity into hell ,” said former President Medvedev. Current Vice-President of the Russian Security Council, X writes.
“Roosevelt fought for peace with his allies, including the Soviet Union; Biden, however, actively and persistently tried to start World War III.”
“Roosevelt was fighting the fascists, but Biden is fighting for them,” Medvedev wrote in English. “He is a disgrace to America!”
Medvedev, who positioned himself as a liberal modernizer during his term as president from 2008 to 2012, now positions himself as an anti-Western Kremlin hawk. Diplomats said his views were indicative of the thinking of those at the top of the Kremlin elite.
The war in Ukraine triggered a deep crisis in relations between Russia and the West, and Biden’s “crazy SOB” remarks angered Russian officials. Putin said with a sarcastic smile, a statement that showed why the Kremlin believes Biden is a better future president than Trump.
In one sentence, Biden spoke of threats to the world, including “Putin and others,” the risk of nuclear conflict and the existential threat to humanity from climate change.
Putin has painted the United States and its allies as a crumbling empire that wants to destroy Russia and steal its natural resources.
